I'm not sure why I put this interesting mienral under "Rocks and Ores" but here it is! These specvimens represent superb examples of "long fibre" asbestos, the fibrous form of the mineral serpentine. The fibres of this mineal are extremely fine and flexible, so much so, that it can be subdivided, made into threads and woven! Unfortunately, this mineral has been linked to health problems related to aspiration of tiny fibres and has been banned from most uses. Specimens like this pose no health hazard. Fascinating and unique mineral!
