Microminerals, Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos, Quebec

The Jeffrey Asbestos Mine has been a prolific producer of mineral specimens for decades. Beautiful macro specimens and gorgeous micro specimens of both common and rare species have made their way from this mine into many collections. The flow of specimens is subsiding largely due to the winding up of open pit mining operations. If mining continues at Asbestos, it will be from underground workings and few specimens will be recovered. Only ore will be mined with minimal development in the waste. In addition, just this past week, the Jeffrey Mining Co. has applied for bankruptcy protection. The great old mine may not be active into the future very far. Here are some excellent specimens from the Jeffrey Mine. I have several specimens of many of the species shown, of similar quality. The specimen that you receive will not necessarily be the one in the picture. For macro specimens see the main mineral list.
